The site FlamesNation.ca site just wrote “Do you believe in miracles? Because the Flames have suddenly won five in a row and are just two points back of the Vancouver Canucks for a playoff position in the Pacific Division (with two games in hand).” And I was there on Saturday night to witness the fifth win in a row.
Ramo was puking his guts out so Hiller got the start in net while Lundqvist rested infavour if Raanta for the Rangers. After a so-so performance by both the Flames and Rangers, the visitors had a tenuous 1-0 lead. Then a couple of quick goals just 17 seconds apart gave the Flames a 2 point lead. They added to the total to make it 4-1. There was a memorable hit by Ferland on McIlrath. But the Rangers stormed back with 3 unanswered goals of their own, tying the game 4-4 to force overtime. Gaudreau had some chances in overtime to add to his 2 regulation time goals for a hat trick but he settled for an assist on Brodie’s game winner.
The Flames have not quite dug themselves out of their hole and they need to replicate their home success when on the road. If they do so they would move ahead of some other Westerb teams and be in a playoff spot by late-January. So there’s still hope…
